PARENTS, TEACHERS AND STUDENTS WILL HOLD BAKE SALE AT CAPITOL AND PUSH TO END FURLOUGH FRIDAYS
‘Cookies for Classrooms’ Bake Sale to Raise Money for Teachers
What: Rally to show community support for ending Furlough Fridays and “old school” bake sale to raise money for teachers who want to return to the classroom. Children’s Storyteller & Author Wally “Famous” Amos will also be reading to keiki!
When: Friday, January 29, 2010
9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Where: Hawaii State Capitol
415 South Beretania Street/ Public parking options
Why: Hawaii public school students are paying the price for the state’s fiscal crisis. This event marks the 9th cancelled school day on which children have been forced out of the classroom. Parents will be sending a message to the governor and legislature to end furlough Fridays and raising money to get Hawaii’s keiki back in the classroom.
Note: Parents are prohibited from selling goods on the Capitol grounds, so baked goods will be bagged and labeled with information on how donations can be made on-line. Those in attendance are encouraged to bring their own blanket or mat to sit on, along with their own water and snacks.
